Footage rights and consent
Last updated
Actors trust us with their performances. This page explains how we use the footage you send, what you’re responsible for, and how we handle permission to show your work.
Your responsibility for the footage you send
When you send footage to Actor Showreels, you confirm that you have the right to use it to create your demo reel and clips. Most actors use short excerpts of productions they appeared in, but some productions, contracts or release agreements limit how footage can be used. If you’re not sure, check with the production or your representative before sending it. Our terms of service explain what happens if footage turns out to be used without the right to do so.
How we use your footage
We use your footage only to:
- Review it and recommend a package
- Edit your demo reel and any agreed clips
- Make revisions you request
- Keep a copy for future updates, for the period described below
We don’t sell your footage, give it to anyone else for their own use, or use it to train AI models, and we don’t upload it to services that use customer files for that purpose.
Showing your reel as a sample
We never show your footage or finished reel on our website, social media or anywhere else unless you give separate written permission for that specific use. Ticking the optional box on our intake form only lets us ask you; it isn’t permission.
If you give permission, you can withdraw it at any time by emailing hello@actorshowreels.com. We’ll remove the reel from our website and our own social media within 7 days. We can’t recall copies that other people have already downloaded or shared, which is one reason we only show reels with clear permission.
Scene partners and other people in your footage
Your footage may include other actors. We edit to keep the focus on you and only use the material for your reel. If we ever ask to show a reel as a sample, we’ll only use scenes where other performers aren’t prominently featured, or where they have also given permission.
Music and other material
We don’t add music to reels by default. If you ask us to include music or other third-party material, you’re responsible for having the right to use it.
Footage we don’t work with
We don’t retrieve copyrighted footage from streaming services, remove watermarks, or alter credits to misrepresent where footage came from. We may decline footage we believe you don’t have the right to use.
Performers under 18
We don’t accept footage of performers under 18.
How long we keep footage
We keep your source footage and project files for 12 months after delivery so future updates are easier. You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time by emailing hello@actorshowreels.com. Our privacy policy explains how we store and protect your information.
